2 Ways To End Spam Texts Once And For All

“Pooja, this is Bob from your bank. We can’t process your payment. Click here to reprocess.” You’ve likely received that text message recently. Emails and phone calls are no longer the only sources of spam. Unlike spam calls, spam text messages are often difficult to recognize as spam. They can contain sensitive personal information or requests for money.

97 percent of Americans own a phone. Since mobile usage is increasingly our primary connection point, consumers are targeted with various scams, phishing attempts, and spam tactics. Security analyst and CEO of Secure Ideas Kevin Johnson said bad people abuse any communication path. People communicate primarily through text, so that’s where the attackers target. Sadly, it is effective.

You may be receiving malware or phishing messages in spam text messages, and it can be very annoying. These tips will ensure you stay safe and spot spam text messages.

Get On Do-Not-Text Lists

A do-not-call and do-not-text list can prevent unsolicited calls and texts from telemarketers, according to Grant Gibson, executive vice president of CIBR Ready. National Do Not Call Registry, run by the Federal Trade Commission, allows you to register your home or cell phone number online or by calling 1-888-382-1222. Call from the number you wish to register. It will prevent telemarketers from texting you.

Get Another Number

Gibson recommends using alternate numbers as a simple precaution. You can also use a Google Voice number. It reduces the number of texts you get on your primary number if you route that number to your email.

Gibson suggested that much sensitive information is shared with friends and family via text or when creating online accounts, making purchases, or entering online contests. Protect your primary line diligently. Use an alternative number and register on the Do Not Call list so you are not bombarded with messages once your number is found.
