Why You Should Never Pluck Gray Hairs

If you’re one of those who pluck out their gray hairs as soon as they appear, you may want to reconsider doing so. While it’s tempting to think that getting rid of those pesky grays will make you look younger, the truth is, it can have the opposite effect.

What Happens When You Pluck Gray

Hairs?

An old wives’ tale says plucking a gray hair will cause two more to grow in its place. Besides, there’s no scientific evidence to support this claim; there’s a good reason you shouldn’t pluck your gray hairs: it can damage your hair follicles and cause premature hair loss.

When you pluck out a gray hair, it damages the follicle left behind. This damage can cause the follicle to produce weaker, thinner hairs, which are more likely to be gray. So, by plucking out your gray hairs, you’re increasing the number of grays you’ll have in the long run.

There’s also the issue of premature aging. When you pluck out gray hairs, you’re putting unnecessary stress on the skin around your hair follicles. This stress can lead to wrinkles and other signs of premature aging.
