Mistakes Tourists Make While Visiting Tulum

The Mexican destination Tulum has become increasingly popular in recent years. It makes sense. With its beaches, cenotes, archaeological sites, delicious food, and plenty of opportunities for relaxation, this town on the Yucatán Peninsula’s Riviera Maya is full of natural beauty.

Tulum is a popular tourist destination, but many tourists make a few mistakes. During your travels to Tulum, avoid these four mistakes tourists often make and learn how to avoid them.

All Beaches Are Near Hotels

In Tulum, there is only one beach zone. Restaurants and beach clubs are located there. Centro and other hip neighborhoods like Aldea Zama or La Veleta are where most hotels and Airbnbs are located. Due to rush hour traffic, Centro to Tulum Beach can take up to 45 minutes. Know where your hotel is and plan for transportation to the beach and elsewhere in Tulum. – Betty Nguyen, founder of Go Tulum Travel

Showing Up Without Pesos

ATMs are scarce, and commissions are high in Mexico. Our advice to tourists is to save money by bringing USD or pesos instead of credit cards. – Océane Soupey, head of marketing and business development manager at Mexico Kan Tours.

Tulum offers countless mind-expanding activities. The destination has become a digital nomad hotspot, but we encourage visitors to immerse themselves in the destination, expanding their minds and hearts. Check out the Tulum Archaeological Zone and swim in the breathtaking cenotes. – Sergio Parra, managing director of Aloft Tulum.

Wearing Heels

Please don’t wear high heels! The roads and venues aren’t designed for them. – Karen Young, owner of Wild Things Boutique.
