The holidays are a happy event for families to celebrate the many blessings life has to give by decorating their houses, cooking special meals, exchanging gifts with loved ones, and other activities.
But for pet owners, it’s crucial to exercise extra caution during this time of year because there are more temptations for pets and distractions.
Here are some seasonal objects that could endanger dogs and cats to help keep pets safe. Continue reading for their safety tips and cautionary tales.
Christmas Tree
It’s crucial to constantly sweep or vacuum up the needles from any tree that serves as the focal point of your celebrations because they can be dangerous if consumed. Additionally, they may become caught between your pet’s paw pads and irritate or hurt them.
Try to secure your tree to a wall or window if you have a pet that enjoys climbing or running into objects with excitement to prevent injury. Since most cats dislike the sound and texture, wrapping the trunk in aluminum foil can prevent cats from climbing.
Choose a tree skirt that fits snugly or a stand with a covered basin to make it more challenging to get to the water.
Gift Wrappers
To avoid the stress and high expenditures of emergency operations, make sure to put away gift-wrapping supplies as soon as you finish. Foreign bodies are typically removed surgically.
Keep gifts hidden until it’s time to open them if your pet is curious about them. After opening gifts, be cautious to properly dispose of bows, ribbons, and other packaging because they might be dangerous. Dogs also enjoy chewing wrapping paper when placed under the tree, which might result in foreign bodies and upset tummies.
Like tinsel, gift-wrapping ribbons and strings can put dogs and cats at risk for GI obstruction.
