Here’s How To Get A Passport In Time For Summer

As the world slowly emerges from the COVID-19 pandemic, more people are planning trips overseas. However, obtaining a passport has become daunting due to delays and long wait times. Many passport agencies have reported a backlog of applications and limited staffing, resulting in a longer processing time than before the pandemic.

The U.S. Department of State website states that routine passport services take 10-18 weeks to process, significantly longer than the average 4-6 weeks before the pandemic. Expedited services typically take 2-3 weeks and currently take up to 12 weeks.

It is best to allow ample time for the passport processing process rather than waiting until the last minute to apply for one. Here are some tips on how to obtain a passport in time for summer:

Check The Status Of Your Current

Passport

If you already have a passport, ensure it’s not expired or close to expiration. If it’s close to expiring, it’s best to renew it as soon as possible.

Apply For A Passport As Early As Possible

Don’t wait until the last minute to apply. Applying at least six months before your planned travel dates is recommended.

Use Expedited Services

If you need your passport sooner than the standard processing time, expedited services are available for an additional fee. However, as mentioned earlier, expedited services are also experiencing delays, so plan accordingly.

Consider Using A Passport Agency Or

Expediter

If you’re in a hurry and can’t wait for standard processing times, using a passport agency or an expediter is an option. They can expedite your application for an additional fee, and some offer same-day services.

Passports may be more challenging to obtain in time for summer travel this year, but it’s still possible. By planning, checking your passport status, and using expedited services or passport agencies, you can ensure a valid passport and a stress-free travel experience.
