There is nothing wrong with acting as you would in your actual residence when you’re staying at a hotel, but that’s not always the best idea.
HBO’s “The White Lotus” recently depicted the rude behavior many hotel guests exhibits. Even though the show was entertaining, it should not serve as a model for acceptable travel etiquette.
Diane Gottsman, an etiquette expert, said, “Travel is picking up, and hotels are finally getting back to business.” Here’s what Gottsman and other etiquette experts observed at hotels and suggested for avoiding them.
Getting Rid Of Your Room
According to Thomas P. Farley, the nationally syndicated etiquette columnist, housekeeping should not encounter an excessive mess. Please clean your room before hanging the ‘please makeup room’ tag.” Room service trays or carts can also contribute to cleanliness.
Exploring The Housekeeping Supply
Cart
Hotel amenities and supplies are designed to make your stay more comfortable, but you don’t have to take anything.
Patricia Rossi, a civility expert, “Don’t raid the hotel housekeeping supply cart. Ask for what you need, so supplies don’t mysteriously come up short during the housekeeping shift.”
Neglecting The Staff
Farley said, “Whether, for a single day or a week or more, a hotel room is your temporary home and should be treated as such.”
It isn’t nice to speak disrespectfully to hotel staff, which will not lead to free upgrades or anything. Sometimes, a guest is bothered by something outside of the hotel’s control, such as during a pandemic.
Creating Plenty Of Noise
Smith said, “Whether you are traveling for fun, a family obligation, or business, you must remember your hotel is a shared space.”
While in the hotel room, modulate your voice, TV, and music volume. When leaving for an early flight, be aware of the door slamming.
Taking A Smoke Break
Almost every hotel today prohibits smoking indoors, so if you’re in a nonsmoking facility, don’t do it anyway.
Mitchell said, “It surprises me that some people still try to ‘sneak’ a smoke. As recent as 2020, there have been reports of hotel fires due to cigarette smoke.”
