The Most Detrimental Habit To Energy

Levels

Eating your biggest meal at the end of the day can be the worst habit for energy levels, says Dr. Mary Valvano from BetterNowMD. Our body’s ability to metabolize food depends on the time of day, and eating late can affect blood sugar levels and energy from the next day’s meals.

Breaking the habit of eating a large dinner and not getting enough sleep is crucial for improving energy levels. Eating more earlier in the day can boost energy levels. Eating a big meal at night disrupts sleep and the body’s natural circadian rhythm, making it harder to get quality rest, says Dr. Mary Valvano. Dr. Ruvini Wijetilaka adds that not getting enough sleep, profound sleep, can significantly drain energy.

Less Than Ideal Habits For Energy Levels

Apart from avoiding late-night meals and getting enough sleep, consuming energy drinks can drain energy levels and endanger health, according to experts. However, caffeine from other sources like green or fermented tea can improve energy levels by supporting cellular energy production, says Dr. Mary Valvano. A sedentary lifestyle and a diet high in sugar and processed foods can also contribute to poor energy levels. Regular exercises for at least 30 minutes of moderate intensity each day, such as brisk walking, cycling, or swimming, can help improve energy levels by increasing blood flow and oxygen to the brain and muscles, advises Dr. Danielle Kelvas.

When to Consult Your Doctor

If fatigue lasts for more than two weeks, accompanied by symptoms like fever, loss of appetite, or shortness of breath, consult a doctor. Lifestyle factors like lack of physical activity, poor nutrition, and stress can cause low energy levels. It’s advisable to seek medical attention if you have persistent low energy levels.
