Are Frequent Powder Gel Manicures Bad For Me?

What is powder gel? Powder gel manicures are a popular option for those who want their nails to last longer than gel manicures. Powder gel is applied to the nails instead of traditional gel and lasts longer than conventional gel because the glue used to apply it contains cyanoacrylate. But is it wrong to get repeated gel manicures?

Powder Gel Removal Can Be Super Drying

Powder gel is more challenging to remove than traditional gel and requires a long soak in acetone. Taking breaks between powder gel applications can be helpful. Moisturize afterward with plenty of cuticle oil, cuticle serum, and hand cream.

Dr. Tamara Lazic Strugar, Hudson Dermatology and Laser Surgery’s board-certified dermatologist, recommends taking a break in between applications of nail polish and removing powder gel nails with acetone as soon as possible.

Lazic recommends taking breaks between manicures to avoid nail discoloration and skin allergies. If your skin and nails seem to tolerate dip gel manicures well, taking breaks might not be necessary.

Signs It’s Time To Take A Break

So, is getting frequent powder gel manicures bad for you? If you’re getting regular powder gel manicures and experiencing any inflammation or pain, stop getting powder gel manicures and see a dermatologist. If you have sensitive skin, avoid using powder gel in a communal jar and ensure the salon uses individual disposable jars for each client.

Allenby notes that using nail products depends on how much exposure to chemicals you’re willing to accept and the health of your nails.
