It isn’t your responsibility to ensure your male colleagues behave around you or correct/address their inappropriate behavior if you catch them staring at your chest. You can now shout subtly (and not so subtly) that your colleague is looking somewhere they shouldn’t.
Known for writing about how her breast size affected her career, AnnaMarie Houlis told HuffPost she once felt mortified when a male interviewer told her she looked “naughty” in a high-necked dress. Here’s what you can do when you catch your male colleague or supervisor staring at your chest:
Tell Them They’re Looking Wrongly
You can directly tell them they’re looking at the wrong place or look down with them. You can also say, “I see you looking down constantly. Is there something on my shirt?” Additionally, you can cover your chest or cross your arms.
You Can Confront Your Colleague Directly
You can use this method if you’re comfortable being direct. You can say, “How you look at me makes me uncomfortable. Can you please stop/ look at my eyes, please?”
Escalate It To Your Manager Or HR
People can feel intimidated by someone staring at them as a manager or above them. You should go to HR in these instances to report the issue, and the HR team can address the complaint anonymously. You can go to HR, even if it’s just a colleague and not your superior if you’re uncomfortable being direct or have exhausted all your methods.
