The past weekend was pretty much expected to be a massive moneymaker, as Avengers: Endgame hit the theaters. The experts and analysts all had their ideas about how much the weekend take at the box office would be, with even the House of Mouse weighing in on their expectations.
When the opening weekend dust had settled, and the numbers were crunched, Disney released the earnings for the movies opening weekend. However, it would seem that Disney miscalculated, and Avengers: Endgame took in quite a bit more than initially tallied.
As a result, Disney officially updated its figures on Monday, providing a new, much more substantial dollar amount. The film is reported to have made $6 million more in domestic sales on Sunday than had been initially tabulated. With the addition of the $6 million, that brings the domestic total for the films opening weekend to a whopping $356 million.
It was also stated that the international box office take was increased as well, which when added with the domestic take, showed an unprecedented total of $1.222 billion in just five days of screening, having opened in China on Wednesday.
With this type of opening weekend figures, one thing is for sure—Avengers: Endgame does have one robust set of legs. Even with the summer movie season just beginning, there is no expected drop anytime soon in the films ticket sales.
Of those interviewed by ComScore, a respectable 82% said they would definitely recommend the film to a friend, with as many as 29% stating that they would take the time to see the movie again in the theater.
What this all adds up to the fact that the record-breaking juggernaut that is Avengers: Endgame is not expected to throttle down any time soon, going into this weekend and well beyond.
