Netflix Fires Kevin Spacey from ‘House of Cards’

Netflix is officially cutting ties with actor and producer Kevin Spacey amidst a series of allegations of sexual harassment. The decision could potentially bring a sudden end to the hit series House of Cards.

The show was about to start shooting its 6th and final season when Spacey was accused by actor Anthony Rapp of sexual misconduct when Rapp was just 14 years old. Since Rapp went public with his allegations, others have stepped forward with similar allegations of sexual harassment by Spacey, including a former production assistant on House of Cards.

Media Rights Capital, the studio that owns House of Cards, has suspended Spacey while it conducts an investigation into the allegations. Netflix, meanwhile, has decided to cut all ties with Spacey.

“Netflix will not be involved with any further production of House of Cards that includes Kevin Spacey,” a Netflix spokesperson announced Friday night.

Netflix has also decided not to move forward with a move called Gore, a biopic of Gore Vidal, starring and produced by Spacey.

It remains to be seen whether or not Netflix cutting ties with Spacey means the end of House of Cards. Netflix could decide to halt production of the show altogether or find a way to shoot a 6th and final season of the show without Spacey.

Either way, House of Cards doesn’t appear to be getting the kind of ending anyone could have envisioned, and fans may never look at the show the same way again.

As for Spacey, who announced to the world that he’s a gay man after Rapp’s accusations, he is seeking “evaluation and treatment” after the recent series of allegations made against him.
