Is Grey’s Anatomy Wrapping Up?

Shonda Rimes’ hit American medical drama is in its 14th season. And up to this point, the show has been anything but predictable since it first aired in 2005. Every season finale includes a cliff-hanger ensuring that fans will be back for more. Up to this point, Grey’s has showed few signs of slowing down.

Fans of the show have been through dozens of characters, many of whom have been killed or written off. Only 4 of the shows original cast members remain on the show today – Ellen Pompeo, Chandra Wilson, Justin Chambers, and James Pickens, Jr.

But each new episode of the 14th season seems to bring some of the remaining characters stories closer and closer to completion. This past week, the events that had left Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) and Nathan Riggs (Martin Henderson) scarred for nearly 10 years are explained, giving both characters closure and peace. Another prime  example of this is with Justin Chambers, who plays character Alex Karev. During the Season 12 finale, he beat up another doctor, and this took an entire season to resolve between the criminal charges and relationship problems the incident caused. Now, he is back together with his long-term girlfriend and flourishing as a surgeon.

For most viewers, even those who are crazy about it, the show has past its prime. Interesting medial situations are slim as more and more of the story-line is based around character drama. Earlier seasons boasted a mix of character and medical drama with nearly every episode bringing a new medical anomaly to the mix- tree impalements, lion attacks, shootings, crashes, and lots of tumors.

So whether or not the show is actually headed toward a final ending is unclear. No official announcements have been made. Yet, with more ends being tied up than new beginnings of seasons-long drama, it looks like there may be an end in sight that keeps fans, networks, and the shows executives happy.
